Inveraray: 37 miles, Glasgow Airport: 88 miles, Glasgow: 91 miles, Edinburgh: 120 miles. Situation Rosebank House occupies a prime elevated position with beautiful open aspects over Oban, the Sound of Mull and beyond to the Isles of Kerrera and Mull. The town of Oban is the largest port in the West of Scotland and the main ferry terminus for the Hebrides. Ferries from Oban serve Mull and many of the inner Hebridean Islands as well as Barra and South Uist in the Western Isles. Oban (meaning - little bay' in Gaelic) has a population of approximately eight and a half thousand and is known as - The Gateway to the Isles'. It originally existed as a small fishing and trading village until the steamers of the late Victorian era started arriving in greater numbers. The arrival of the railway in 1880 confirmed its growing status. The most outstanding feature in Oban is McCaig's Tower which is also known as McCaig's Folly. This was built in 1897 to provide work for local stone masons and provide a lasting monument to the McCaig Family. The original intention was to complete it with a large tower placed in the middle but this, like the intended statues of the McCaig family, never materialised. The tower is clearly visible from Rosebank House. Oban is also arguably the centre for the West Coast sailing scene and still retains a large fishing fleet. Oban boasts a wide variety of shops, sporting and transport facilities. Restaurants, cafes and bars abound, many with live bands and ceilidhs and for the energetic. Swimming and other sports can be enjoyed at the Atlantis Leisure Centre. Description Rosebank House is a distinguished Victorian mansion with the main accommodation meticulously designed around the panoramic views to Oban Harbour, the Sound of Mull and the islands beyond, with large bay windows emphasising the property's views. Over the last year the present owner has comprehensively upgraded the house's interior to the highest standards with the specification expected of a luxury new home but retaining the character of its period. Philippe Starck Duravit en suites have been added, all with under floor heating and power showers. A newly fitted kitchen has been added and additional points of note include original shutters, fine cornicing, beautiful fire surrounds, hardwood flooring and wall panelling, particularly in the upper landing which is further enhanced by columns and a cupola which allows natural light to flood the stair well and ground floor below, further adding to the distinction of this impressive family home. Rosebank House has also been successfully let as a large luxury holiday home and full details of the rental charges are available by request. What a gorgeous villa!! For those that have never been, Oban is beautiful while also acting as a gateway to the many islands of the west coast of Bonny Scotland. A bit out the way for some, but if you are passing, check it out.
