Hi, we want to buy a house but have found out that the single storey kitchen extension has no planning permission. We were told it was built 17 years ago. Can anyone give us advice on what we should do?

Someone more knowledgable than me may correct this however it's my understanding that after 4 years (could be longer?!) of a structure standing with no complaints or reports then it's probably fine.
I'd guess the issue would be regarding building control - has the extension been built to modern building control standards? Your legal advisor should be able to advise on insurances and so on to help. Good luck |
