Default extensions legal ?

Hi all,

I've seen a house which Im considering putting an offer on, but Im a little concerned that the 2 existing structures (a lean-to coal shed and a ground floor bathroom) are not legal, ie, they are built on common land and the owner didn't go through the proper planning processes.
Is there a way I can found out for certain, without consulting a solicitor ?

Thanks,
Sylvana

You could search the local authority planning permission website and cross reference it with land registry records, but new homes experts comment is absolutely right - Get Legal Advice!
