Help!

Hi everyone...

First post! We have been really interested in a self-build for the last five years, and went to the shows, got the Potton brochure etc. We signed up for the plotfinder service, but quickly got disillusioned when we could not find any land, and any decent land is snapper up by local developers in bed with the estate agents, before it comes on the market

We are really taken by the idea of a modern barn. Not necessarily a barn conversion, maybe a new build in a barn style.

At the moment we are living in Kent. Mortgage free with around 220k in equity. Was intending to borrow another 200k or so.

Trouble is we just don’t really have a clue where to start, or really where we want to live! Ideally still in Kent, but in a capture areas of a nice village with some decent schools.

Ideally we would like someone to find our land for us! Would probably be good candidates for a TV program!

Maybe bungalow gobbling is the way to go? I just don’t know and get more and more frustrated looking at estate agents sites.......

Anyway, hope someone can offer some advice

Ouch - well, Kent is certainly one of the more developed areas, and pretty desirable, so I'm afraid it's not too surprising that land can be at somethng of premium! Hopefully one of the new build specialists on the forums will be able to provide some useful information, though.

Thanks for the reply. All the land I seem to keep finding is people gardens that they have sold on, or land like that, which is sandwiched between houses if you get my drift...

Need to find a nice plot with a wreck on to tear down and start again...

Indeed, that's the problem of wanting to live in a very desirable area, unfortunately.

Best option; locate the area that you want first. Look at properties with larger than average gardens, corner plot bungalows and then look on Google earth see if there is potential.

Then try your luck and drop notes through the doors.

Don’t bother with any land finder websites; if they are that good they would have been sold by a reputable Estate Agent locally.

Good Luck, there are still development sites out there, you may have to dig a little deeper to find what you want.
