HELP - Want to Self Build but a tree is in the way!!

Hi, We have quite large garden and we want to build a 3 bed detatched house for my parents. The only problem we have and it is a big one, is that there is a huge Horse Chestnut Tree in the front garden which would be the front garden of the new house and it has a TPO on it!. I have been serarching the net for ways around this problem, as we do not want to kill the tree or damage it, but we desperately want/need to build this house. The canopy of the tree would not affect the house but the roots would affect the foundations. I have read that people have used Pile Foundations in some cases, but not sure if this is ideal. Has anyone overcome this problem or have any suggestions on how we can keep the tree and also build the house? The tree will be about 8 to 10 feet away from the corner of the house (diagonal to the corner of the house so the trunk will not be in the direct line of the house).

You'd need to let us know what type of subsoil you have where you live to determine the action required. Basically you'll need to comply with NHBC standards Chapter 4.2 for foundations near trees.

We came across this situations many times. It is simple by builders point of view but complicated to structural engineers.

First, the earth has to be excavated to when you reach clay, then the survey is carried out.
In most cases you build pillows and apply steel beams on top as foundation. The rots are cut.

We had one extension where there were trees around, about 5 foot away from our foundation. Inspector made us dig 2.3m deep.
