Default Part exchange query

Can anybody help please? Do all developers think/operate the same way?

We have had a negative response on our property in the North West of England (with a view to part exchanging for a new property in Hampshire...) The developers went to great lengths to reiterate that the property we wanted to part exchange in the north is in show home condition and on a great plot but due to the slow moving house market in that area they would not take it off our hands!
We have no deposit without the sale of this house so it's normal sale or part exchange only for us... Can anybody advise please if we should try another developer or are they all likely to come back with the same answer...?
