Responsibility for roof - leasehold
Advice needed! I own the leasehold of an upstairs flat (the upper floor of a two storey victorian terraced house), and the freehold of the downstairs flat. I believe that the owner of the downstairs flat has the leasehold of that flat and the freehold of mine. Apparently this is a common arrangement (I thought it was to ensure joint responsibility for repairs). However, there is now a problem with the roof and the downstairs owner is refusing to contribute. As far as I am concerned, I am willing to split the cost equally (even though I do not own the freehold). He thinks that I am soley responsible for the roof because I live upstairs. I would be grateful if someone could clarify the situation. Thanks.

It all depends on what the lease says - you need to read it
