Selling privately can be a bit more tricky, but there is a load of what a traditional estate agent does that you can do, a sign outside the house and so on. The advantages are the cost savings and being kept in the loop of what is going on, plus most importantly you are going to work harder for the sale. Again jmo.

I think that the USA's For-Sale-by-Owner service really makes sense, as who in their right mind would consider paying five grand for something they can very easily do themselves. Estate Agents find most of the information they need to know about a property from off the internet and they advertise properties on the internet also. Surely most intelligent Homeowners are able to that and save themselves thousands of pounds!

Hi there,

I saw your post and had to reply, A "For Sale" board is still an essential tool if you are looking to sell your house. Since the majority of buyers (certainly in my area) are local, it may be somebody that drives/walks past your house everyday that eventually ends up buying it, especially if you live on a main road or in a popular area. We have created high quality and great looking "For Sale" boards specifically for private sellers, type in 4saleboard on google and you'll find us! Have a look and see what you think

Regards

Ben

Thanks for that Ben. I will have a look. We have been getting ours from a Printing Company near Canterbury but we are always looking for prices to get costs down.
Thank you.

I think the main problem the public have is they honestly believe that estate agents do more than they actually do, when in reality they seem to do very little.

Think one of the main obsticles is coverage. If no one sees your property it will not sell. For sale sign will help but as 90% plus look online and mostly at the major portals like rightmove & zooplas most people look to agents.

Companies like ourselves are a halfway house, one low cost fee gets you on these websites and we add a bit of experience in negotiation etc

But as I say to a lot of sellers, try it first.

It's always good to have a person to talk to at the end of the phone, although internet sites are OK and have their uses (I know success stories from some) - a real real estate agent can't be beaten for their knowledge and advice.
