If you can sell privately you'll definitely save money, but it might take longer. In the current market you just want to try to sell, whatever means you use!

Do we perhaps need some different terminology?

If I do a one-to-one deal with someone, to sell my house to her/him, without having publicised my house in any way, I am selling privately.

If I sell my house without using an estate agent, but having publicly promoted it myself - be it via postcards in shop windows, or a website of my own, or via one of the 'self sell' internet sites... this isn't selling privately.. this is selling publicly. I may not be employing an estate agent to publicly sell it, but I am still publicly selling it. To refer to this as 'selling privately' is surely wrong? Shouldn't there be some other term for this? Or is there already one, and it's not getting used?

sure you will save money but it can be another whole heap of stress at a time when you're probably stressed out already. if you're 100% confident then give it a go. but if you have doubts, it's probably better to stick to the devil you know.
