In May 2011 I completed a house purchase, my solicitor paid the estate agency fees direct to the agent on completion. In Dec 2011 the solicitor contacted me to say the agent informed the VAT had not been paid. On checking the completion statement this is indeed the case. The estate agent have subsequently contacted me to arrange payment and I am willing to pay the amount. Before I pay it (~£500) however I would like to ensure that the agent can demand payment of the VAT after 7 months, my gut feeling is that I'am liable for this additional amount but I would welcome confirmation.
Many thanks for taking the time to read my message. Ideally I would have asked my solicitor for advice on this matter but I don't have confidence in their ability to give me the correct answer. |
