I have a friend who purchased a bungalow about six months ago. Prior to purchase it was surveyed by a Chartered Surveyor. She is now having some building work done and asbestos has been discovered. She has been told that this will necessitate considerable cost involving removal of all ceilings, getting rid of the asbestos, and making good afterwards.
The asbestos material was clearly visible in the loft when the fibreglass insulation was pulled to one side. Do you think she may have the basis for a claim against the surveyor? JerryB |

May depend on type of survey , the cheap and cheerful version? he probably wouldn't even look at loft, a full survey might have inspected the loft but it's not something you can identify simply by looking, samples would need to be taken to confirm asbestos.
