A national standardisation project is being undertaken by Britain, for the profession of inventory clerk. Up until very recently, there was no set service or quality benchmark, which caused landlords and tenants great concern.
Over 1.5 million properties experienced a change of tenant last year, a figure which has spurred on the necessity for some sort of national standard of qualification or training for inventory clerks.
To meet the rising demand, a national programme has been established. Last week saw the launch of the national Licensed Inventory Provider Scheme, which is set to provide a clear framework of national standards for professional inventory clerks. The scheme will allow landlords and tenants to select a nationally accredited clerk with much greater ease and security.
Potential inventory clerks will now have to pass a series of exams and technical assessments, as well as show a strong understanding of the national benchmark standards for inventorying and the fundamentals of customer service.
Stephen Callaghan, Chief Executive of the Licensed Inventory Provider Scheme, spoke about the previous confusion regarding inventory clerks, and how this new plan will alleviate that as well as promote more use of the Tenancy Deposit Scheme. Now, nationally accredited inventory clerks will be able to display the mark of the Licensed Inventory Provider Scheme so that landlords and tenants can know that they are getting a standardised, high quality service.
To be a part of the new Licensed Inventory Provider Scheme, applicants can go to www.lipscheme.org to sign up.
