Opportunities at London Thames Gateway Project

The London Thames Gateway area is being redeveloped and is expected to create investment opportunities. It is one of the biggest regeneration projects in Europe with the area stretching along the banks of the River Thames from East and South East London through to Essex and Kent.

According to a report by Jones Lang LaSalle commissioned by London Thames Gateway Development Corporation (LTGDC), the area will include 5.4m sq ft of office space, 4.3m sq ft of industrial space and 2.15m sq ft of retail space with the addition of 30,000 new homes.

Andrew Gould of Jones Lang LaSalle said this is a long overdue guide for investors, developers and occupiers wanting to know what the opportunities are in London Thames Gateway and how to access them.

Mr Gould added the scale of opportunity is massive, the investment opportunities are now very real and we would not have concluded that even 2 or 3 years ago. It is one reason why we have opened a full service office in the area, our third largest globally.

Peter Andrews of LTGDC explained that London is undergoing significant change with the Thames Gateway region leading the way.

London’s regeneration projects include the economic powerhouses of Canary Wharf and Stratford City, the London City Airport, a new entertainment centre at the O2 Arena (formerly known as the Millennium Dome). The Olympic Park, which will host the 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games, the Channel Tunnel Rail Link has recently opened and finally, the Crossrail project which has been scheduled for completion in 2017.
