Gordon Brown has informed union delegates that his priority is to build new homes which will include council housing and affordable homes.

When the Chancellor addressed the GMB union in Brighton, which has heavily lobbied the government to build more council housing, Mr Brown said he wanted to solve the housing problem for couples on modest salaries.
He also recognised that there is a big housing problem in the UK. He wants to put an end to the problem where many couples cannot afford to buy a home. He wants to build more social housing and offer help to councils. Full details are unavailable at present but it is anticipated that this is top priority, along with health and education. It is also suggested that a cabinet-level minister will be appointed to look after housing issues.
