Property development company, Investland, has revealed that despite a slowing housing market, the majority of house hunters say location remains key.
A survey by the company found that nearly 60% of new buyers value the location of their new home as a top priority.
Factors such as parking and good transport links seem unimportant for homebuyers in the UK who are still demanding quality despite the difficulties when getting onto the property ladder.
The survey also revealed that the size of a home was the second most important feature when searching for a dream home, with less than 10% influenced by a property’s interior and even less prioritising parking space.
Commenting on the findings, Joe Gerrard, joint managing director of Investland, said our survey has revealed that developers should take note and location should be their top priority.
UK housebuilders have suffered as a result of the housing slowdown. Thousands of job losses have been announced and some are facing their most challenging period, primarily due to the reduced availability of mortgage funds and a reduction in consumer confidence.
Mr Gerrard explained that good locations can also be fashioned so if a developer shows enough commitment to an area and works hard at being a regenerative influence, it is possible to create the kind of location that the study suggests home buyers are looking for.
Developers still need to understand the implications of geography and infrastructure and exactly what represents a good location to a prospective buyer, concluded Mr Gerrard.
