A recent report by the Halifax has suggested that those looking at less fashionable towns by the seaside could be on to a winner. In addition, research from The Bank of Scotland research has shown that Dunbar and North Berwick offer the best quality of life of seaside towns in Scotland whereas Montrose, Dunoon and Kirkcaldy offered the best value for money.
Out of 14 seaside towns, 8 offered the best quality of life with an average house price below the Scottish average of £140,000.
Average prices in Montrose and Angus were £106,408 and in Dunoon, Argyll and Bute, they were £107,871 and in Kirkcaldy, Fife, £111,436. These towns offer high quality of life and low property prices.
More than 75% of seaside towns in Scotland experienced a rise of 10% in their average house price in the last 12 months and Scottish seaside towns were amongst the best performers in Britain, accounting for 6 of the 10 biggest price rises over the last 12 months.
Portree on the Isle of Skye experienced a 27% rise in its average house price over the last few years - the lowest increase rise of any Scottish seaside town.
