According to a survey by Lloyds TSB Insurance, the average UK gardens is worth £1,237, with the typical most expensive item valued at £426.
Research discovered that British gardens are turning into little goldmines containing hi-tech tools and luxury furniture worth up to £18.6 billion.
Furthermore, 26% of Britons enjoy over 6 hours each week during the garden during the spring and summer gardens.
One third of British gardens have ornamental plants while 25% have statues and ornaments while 22% of a water feature. Nearly 7% have a patio heater and 6% have a sun house.
The research revealed that 50% spend £200 on their garden every year while 3% spend £750. At the top of the ‘wish list’ for this year for Brits is a hot-tub followed by decking and water features.
Phil Loney of Lloyds TSB Insurance said everyone knows we Brits are a nation of green-fingered garden lovers who like nothing better than spending time in the great outdoors. It’s hard to put a price on the pleasure of a barbeque on a summer’s evening but gardeners should stop to think exactly how much their backyards are worth.
However, Mr Loney concluded that gadgets and goodies in the garden should be properly insured.
George Franks of estate agent Douglas and Gordon in Clapham, South London, said a south-facing garden can increase a property’s value by between 2% and 10%. If you have two houses worth £800,000, the one with a garden will cost £50,000 more.
