Estate agents have seen a continued drop in the amount of properties coming onto the market, mainly as a result of the launch of home information packs (Hips).

Research from the National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA) shows that 83% of estate agents have seen the number of market appraisals, a quote on the value of a house, fall compared with October 2006

However, according to the Association of Home Information Pack Providers (AHIPP), these suggestions are misguided.

Paul Broadhead of AHIPP said factors such as the credit squeeze the existing market slowdown and 3 interest rate rises since the beginning of 2007 should be taken into consideration.

Mr Broadhead said he does not accept a charge of approximately £300 for a Hip will discourage someone from selling their property. He added that Hips weren’t launched until August so they are not the reason for the current slowing in the market.

Mr Broadhead concluded that the Government needs to roll-out Hips to cover all properties so people can begin to realise the positive changes they have been implemented to achieve.
