The picturesque Dorset village of Cerne Abbas won recognition of its assets and was named the most desirable village in Britain.
Cerne Abbas, which is situated in the valley of the River Cerne, has many attractions, including the river, streets lined with stone houses and the Abbey. Perhaps the most famous landmark being the 180ft giant carved into the chalk hillside. The village boasts quality schools, low crime rate, old-fashioned pubs and beautiful countryside.
The village has only 800 residents and according to estate agents, there are lengthy waiting lists for property with a starting figure of £500,000.
Peter Lane, from estate agent Savills, who conducted the survey said they took into account the schools, countryside, quality of housing, historic features, pubs and other facilities. It is a combination of having wonderful historic buildings and modern conveniences like schools and shops.
The village has a primary school, a new village hall, a sports field, a post office, a 14th century church, 2 tea rooms and 3 remaining historic public houses.
The area is also ideal to escape mobile phones, the village is a black hole for reception on most networks.
