First-time buyers must consider hidden extras

FirstRungNow, the information service for first-time buyers, has advised those considering buying their first home must consider the hidden costs such as decorating and furnishing properties. Not taking hidden extras into account can put a first-time buyer into further debt, the cost of maintaining a property should also be considered.

A spokesperson for FirstRungNow added that in an effort to save money, first-time buyers should be less picky. Furthermore, being aware of what costs you are likely to face is a good way of avoiding debt, spreading the cost is advised to make them more manageable.

Maintenance costs all add up so should be considered when looking at budgeting after purchasing a home.

Research carried out by Norwich Union has established that legal bills, tax, removals and basic furnishings cost, on average, nearly £6,000 and the majority of first-time buyers admit that the bill for all these hidden extras comes as something of a shock.
