According to Mouseprice.com, a house can be snapped up for less than £30,000 in the North of England.

Oxford Street in South Elmsall, near Pontefract, West Yorkshire is the cheapest place to buy a house in England and Wales. The average property costs £25,600 and is the most affordable place in a survey by property website, Mouseprice.com.

The second most affordable place was Tower Green in the St Hilda’s area of Middlesbrough. Homes in the area are being demolished but can be bought for £27,400.

In third place was Warwick Street in the South Bank area of Middlesbrough with an average property costing £28,000.

The survey revealed that the top 20 cheapest streets were in the North. Seven streets in the list had average house prices of less than £30,000.

Properties in the cheapest street in London cost nearly four times as much as those in South Elmsall.

Leamington Close in Havering, East London, has an average price of £97,800 while Willow Tree Walk in Bromley, London was in second place with an average price of £99,300.

According to figures from the Land Registry, the average property price in the UK is £186,045.
