According to estate agents, Knight Frank, properties in Cornwall and the south coast fetch higher prices per square foot than parts of London.
Savills estate agent has established that some of the most popular resorts in Cornwall have seen prices rocket. In the last 5 years, prices have soared 99% in North Cornwall, compared to a national average of 70%.
Many seaside resorts are increasingly popular with second-home buyers, according to property website smartnewhomes.com.
The average property price in the UK is currently £186,045 but a property on one of Cornwall’s best-loved beaches has an asking price of £1 million.
The beachside property is a two-bedroom semi detached located in St Ives in West Cornwall. It has a front door which appears to be at the back, while the shower is located in the garage.
Its 16ft balcony overlooks Porthmeor Beach. Estate agents, Lillicrap Chilcott, are focusing on the view from the house rather than the property itself.
It has a small kitchen and the interior needs a little work but according to the estate agent, location is everything.
Many reports are showing property price falls but this part of the market is more than holding its own. According to one estate agent in the West Country, waterside houses are big business. There are houses which have been valued at £3 million to £5 million and they are being snapped up.
