A-Level results are out so students can now choose which university they will attend but accommodation is a main aspect for students, particularly with prices varying significantly across the country.
Accommodation accounts for 40% of weekly costs for the average student and for those in London, the figure is 50%. According to AccommodationForStudents, 57% of students questioned, said the cost of housing is extremely important when choosing which university to attend.
A spokesperson for AccommodationForStudents highlighted that universities in the south are the most expensive with London in the lead. The average weekly rent in London is currently at £102.33, compared with a national average of £60.58.
Popular universities are noting higher rental prices, for instance Exeter has an average weekly rent of £75.74. Students in Durham can expect to pay £67.22 whereas those in Brighton pay £72.61 on average.
AccommodationForStudents concluded that Middlesbrough has the lowest weekly average at £38.86 and a room in Crewe can be rented for £40.10 a week.
