The small Scottish fishing port, Girvan in Ayrshire, has been given the title of Britain’s hottest seaside town. The town is renowned for its landmark clocktower Auld Stumpy and the Easter cycle race.
According to the Halifax’s annual survey, Girvan is the best performing seaside town and house prices within the Scottish town have soared by 41% over the last 12 months. In spite of this significant rise, you can still nearly purchase 4 homes in Girvan for one property in the most expensive seaside location, Sandbanks in Dorset – one property in this location would cost £488,750.
Many other Scottish seaside towns benefited from the rise of property prices. Six of the top ten were in Scotland, with Arbroath up 30% to £116,350 and Ardrossan up 28% to £103,184.
St Mawes in Cornwall experienced the fastest rising property prices where prices rose 26% to £306,200.
The Halifax commented that coastal towns have seen solid house price performance over the last 12 months. They appeal to buyers who are looking for a second home.
It is predicted that many seaside towns will continue to profit from rising property prices in the years to come.
