The National Housing Federation (NHF) together with the homelessness charity shelter said that an additional £3.75 billion of public money is required over the next 3 years to address the housing shortage. These organisations are insisting that Gordon Brown, prime minister-to-be, deal with the current lack of affordable housing in the UK.
The leading charities and housing campaigners have called on the government to carry out construction on 20,000 social rented homes each year over the next 3 years to tackle the current problem.
Affordable housing is in desperate short supply due to continued rising house prices and years of under-investment.
Gordon Brown has pledged to focus on this issue but needs to action it urgently.
