The Channel 4’s property investment programme Location, Location, Location hosted by Phil Spencer and Kirstie Allsopp have conducted a 4Homes poll and Edinburgh has been named the best place to live in the UK.
Property prices were one of the main reasons for the city’s success. Phil and Kirstie said the average house sells for just £205,000 which is £5,000 below the UK average.
Second in the poll was Winchester, which was top of the table last year and in third place was Epsom & Ewell.
The worst place to live in the UK was Middlesbrough which was seventh last year. The main reason attributing to making it the worst place to live is health problems, over 25% of its residents admit to regular binge drinking. Poor education results and drug problems also resulted in the city being given the undesirable title. Crimes including robbery, burglary and car theft are twice the UK’s average in Middlesbrough.
Kingston-on-Hull was revealed as the second worst place to live while Newham was in third.
Nottingham was in fourth place while Merthyr Tydfil, which has the lowest property prices in the country, was at number five.
Hackney was named the worst place to live last year but has clearly made some improvements as it is now in twelfth place.
