Affordable homes are out of reach for many

A recent survey by a high street bank has established that 70% of British towns are unaffordable for public sector workers such as teachers, nurses and policemen. Nurses are struggling the most as the study showed that just 1% of British towns were affordable.
Key worker schemes by the government are providing some assistance but given recent trends there would clearly be benefits from widening their reach.
The problem continues to grow as 14 out of the 61 towns that have moved from affordable to unaffordable over the last five years are located in the east Midlands.
