With property prices reaching unaffordable levels for many, an increasing amount of people in the UK are renting. However, this can prove stressful with many British tenants saying dealing with a difficult landlord can be as traumatic as starting a new job!
A survey fish4homes.co.uk established that an astounding 48% of British tenants are getting stressed out by dealing with landlords in the UK. According to the results, the British public rate dealing with a difficult landlord just as stressful as visiting the dentist.
Difficult landlord dealings were only rated slightly less stressful than some of life’s biggest challenges such as moving house and getting divorced.
The survey showed there are 5 typical UK landlord personality types including the perfect landlord, the scatty landlord, the cowboy landlord, the lonely landlord and the disastrous landlord.
Joe Slavin of fish4 said the survey emphasises the problems that many people have experienced with their landlords. However, it’s worth knowing that some tenants can be just as troublesome. Minimising stress can improve your relationship with your landlord.
With renting on the increase, a guide has been developed by Fish4homes called ‘The Guide To A Happy Tenancy’. Some of the advice includes using a specialist lettings agency rather than a private landlord. Read the tenancy agreement before signing, entering into a verbal contract means you will not be protected against any discrepancies. Furthermore, speaking to previous tenants could provide you with more information about your landlord.
