Homeowners warned over cowboy builders

Following the recent flooding and the increasing attraction of environmentally friendly housing technology, demand for builders in the UK property market is expected to soar. The Federation of Master Builders (FMB) has warned that such trends do not come without consequences.

The FMB warned that dishonest builders take advantage of homeowners and they can often cause significant harm to properties. A spokesperson for the FMB commented that a campaign is being launched shortly with the slogan “Say no to builders who approach you”. Trustworthy and honest builders will be extremely busy currently due to high demand.

In addition, homeowners are becoming more aware of greener homes and this is a new area that builders can try their luck by offering to install solar panels.

Research by Abbey established that nearly 1 in 5 Britons have had their homes damaged by a cowboy builder.

The FMB recommends that if you have building work that you would like to be carried out by a master builder, you can search for members of the Federation of Master Builders in your area by visiting their website.
