£500 million funding for UK councils

It has been established that Councils around the UK that are working hard to increase the supply of both land and housing in their areas, are to be provided with extra funding worth a cumulative £500 million.

Yvette Cooper, housing and planning minister, said that some councils are performing well in their efforts to support additional housing, but others really need to do more. The minister added that the funding injections should encourage councils to raise their game.

Ms Cooper also commented that the Housing and Planning Delivery Grant will give help and support to first-time buyers and families, ensuring both that new homes are greener and the focus is on brownfield land. The Minister also announced progress in delivering more green homes and more homes on brownfield sites. 200 more derelict public sector sites across the country are being considered as potential sites for housing and could result in thousands of new homes.

The minister concluded that families across the country need more affordable homes. The objective is to give more support to communities and councils who are doing their bit to deliver the extra homes required.
