Mydeposits.co.uk, the non-custodial tenancy deposit protection scheme, has launched an online claim facility.
The firm, which is jointly owned by the National Landlords’ Association and Hamilton Fraser Insurance, says it is offering a unique method for tenants to raise a deposit dispute at the end of their tenancy.
Under the new system a claim can be made by logging onto the company’s website and entering a Deposit Protection Certificate reference.
Evidence for a claim can then be submitted by uploading photos and scanned documents, such as inventories.
The service offers landlords the chance to submit their own evidence and both parties can track the progress of the claim.
According to mydeposits, the average deposit amount in dispute cases is a substantial £733 and the online service simplifies and speeds up the dispute process for both tenants and landlords.
The firm’s chief executive, Eddie Hooker, comments: “Although only a tiny fraction of tenancies end in dispute, it is reassuring for tenants to know they now have an even more efficient way to have a dispute resolved.”
Recent research from mydeposits.co.uk show that 91% of dispute cases settled by the scheme’s independent adjudication service found in favour of the tenant.
