New research from Aviva UK Health indicates that the British sense of humour, favourite TV shows and the nation’s food and drink rank among the top 10 reason for not relocating overseas.
The findings come from the insurer’s annual “semi-gration” study, which tracks the UK population’s appetite and motivations for moving abroad.
Leaving friends and family emerged as this year’s main obstacle to emigration, with 74% wary of the change.
British culture also holds a special place in people’s hearts, with 43% of respondents confessing they would miss their favourite TV shows.
The British sense of humour ranked highly, with 39% of those surveyed fearful of missing out on national wit.
Thirty-eight per cent expected to develop cravings for British food and drink and coming in at number five, 34% said that they’d miss the NHS if they moved abroad.
The remaining top ten reasons for staying put were: the English language (34%); own town/city (29%); own house (26%); sport (15%) and nightlife (10%).
