Housing Minister, Mark Prisk, is encouraging social landlords to branch out and help meet the demand for rental property by building new homes for private tenants.
In his first speech as Housing Minister, Mr Prisk also urged housing associations and other landlords to bid for a share of a £10 billion government guarantee scheme and “provide the spark to get Britain building” – whether in the social or private rental sector.
By way of illustration, he highlighted Thames Valley Housing Association’s “Fizzy Living” scheme, which offers newly-built flats for rent on the open market in London’s East End, while urging more landlords to “take that leap of faith”.
