Communities Secretary, Eric Pickles, has announced that from 2013 taxpayers can choose to pay their Council Tax over 12 months rather than 10.
The move will lower the average band D instalment by around £24 per month for 10 months of the year.
The Government is also providing support to help local authorities in England freeze council tax in 2014/15, for the third year in a row, having set aside £450 million with this in mind.
In addition, councils will be able to publish online supporting information regarding Council Tax bills rather than be obliged to provide hard copies, although residents still have the legal right to request hard-copy documents.
