Britons prefer semi-detached properties

A survey from Nationwide has revealed that semi-detached properties are the most popular property type in the country and account for 32% of home sales in the UK.

These types of properties are most likely to be purchased in the north-west of England while London is the area where they are least likely to be bought,

The study revealed that the average price of a semi-detached property in the first quarter of this year was £174,554 - this represents a rise of 1.6% annually and an increase of 49.6% over the last five years.

Terraced houses make up for 27% of sales, according to Nationwide.

Last week, Nationwide revealed that detached house prices have increased at a slower rate than other property types.

Nationwide’s research shows that detached property prices have increased by 41% since 2004, compared to an increase of 50% for other properties.

This suggested that average detached homes may provide better value-for-money, as it is twice as big as the average terraced house, say the Nationwide.

Detached houses currently make up about 22% of UK property sales, according to Nationwide.
