Infrastructure projects to support new housing developments

Plans have been revealed which will allow local councils to raise cash to spend on infrastructure projects through a new Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) .
Ministers believe it is essential that new housing developments have roads, parks, playgrounds, schools and health centres in order to relieve transport pressures when new homes are built.
Currently, just 14% of residential developments receive any contribution from housebuilders for infrastructure, with the CIL set to increase this amount.
The Government has announced plans recently to make housing a priority and to build more affordable homes for families across the country. Housing minister Yvette Cooper said we want to give more support to communities and councils who are doing their bit to deliver the extra homes we need with money for vital infrastructure.
Not only do we need new houses but they need to be in high quality neighbourhoods with proper infrastructure and local facilities too. The new community levy will give councils and communities the extra support they need to do their bit to improve their area for families and for the future added Ms Cooper.
