Kitchen is an important feature

Research from Legal & General has discovered that the most important factor when buying a new home in the UK is a large kitchen or garden.

The study noted that 15% said a large kitchen with space for a dining table was most important while 13% opted for a large garden.

Legal & General commented that these trends do vary on the make-up of the buyers in question. For instance en-suite bathrooms are more important to retirees while young couples with no children most likely to want a big garden.

According to Halifax Estate Agents, 78% of people in the UK would pay a premium to have a garden. Britons are prepared to pay £10,000 to have an area outside to sit. 5% said they would pay above £30,000.

In addition, a recent survey by Halifax Estate Agents established that 68% of Britons were prepared to spend more on a home that came with a driveway, garage or a parking space.
