A study by property search engine, Globrix, has discovered that the most environmentally friendly homes can be found in Devon and Kent.
Globrix found 777 houses for sale in the UK with one or more eco features and identified Devon and Kent as the best places to look for a green home, with 52 and 53 properties listed respectively.
Homes with environmentally friendly features seem in short supply in the North and Midlands. Furthermore, Scotland has the fewest green properties for sale.
Cutting carbon emissions is becoming increasingly important for homeowners and with properties equipped with the essential facilities to maintain a green lifestyle in demand.
As well as searching for the traditional categories including number of bedrooms and location criteria, Globrix allows users to search for homes with green features by using search criteria such as environmentally friendly, solar heating, low carbon home, solar electric, rainwater harvesting, solar heating, solar panels, timber built or even compost toilet, Wind Turbine and photovoltaic system.
The website has now used these features to draw up a unique list of the best and worst counties in the UK for finding a fully equipped eco property.
CEO of Globrix, Daniel Lee, said with the credit squeeze affecting peoples budgets, we want to help househunters keep extra costs such as installing eco features down.
The Globrix database provides extensive listings and targeted search terms to provide househunters with exactly the money and carbon saving installations they require, concluded Mr Lee.
